Christian Values in REAL Life, Part #$&*

July 26th, 2009

As we’ve mentioned before, when is the last time you ever saw an avowed atheist charged with something really horrible, hmm? It must happen sometimes but usually it’s Christians and the more devout and crazily religious they are, the worse their crimes: Evangelist guilty of taking minors across state lines for sex.

Why is that? Well, as a former religious nut myself, I can tell you that there seems to be a lot of license involved in Christianity. Among fundamentalist pastors, it seems like everyone was porking everyone elses’ wives ..and no, I’m not exempting myself from the debauchery.

There is a general concept from Calvinism that God chose you, and therefore as a chosen one whatever you do will be forgiven and blessed. King David is often cited as an example of this. So then Jesus’ sacrifice has turned into permission to do whatever crazy shit comes into your head. It must be okay, after all, because God picked you over so many other people to be His special chosen child. And remember, it’s a blessing on whatever YOU do; you still get to sit in judgment of everyone else, especially non Christians. That whole judgment thing is the reward for being chosen.

It happens all the time. And as a matter of objective statistics, Christians are more likely than non-religious people to be arrested for spousal abuse, get divorced or murder a family member. The more religious a person is, the more likely they are to approve of war and torture as counterintuitive as that might seem. Or mabye it isn’t contraintuitive, it’s just contrary to the teachings of Jesus.

I think this all flows from a sense of moral superiority one acquires from believing that one has a unique insight into the true will of God and that one has God’s ear for ones prayers. What should be humbling becomes enabling.

Now whatever you think must be right because God is in you and your thoughts must be His thoughts.

There are and continue to be non-judgmental movements within Christianity but they haven’t seemed to be able to take hold for the last 2000 years. After all, taking the judging others and the sense of moral superiority out of Christianity takes all the fun out of being a Christian!

Clearly the average Christian – and in this case the average big-name EVANGELIST – doesn’t know jack shit about what Jesus actually taught and stood for. If they did they wouldn’t going off 180 degrees in the opposite direction.

Self explanatory. As I have often pointed out, it’s always the Christians zealots who end up slaughtering dozens of people in a mass shooting or killing their families. When was the last atheist shooting you ever heard about? Crazy Christian Vlogger Commits Murder-Suicide in Michigan

More Church Sex Scandals

February 18th, 2009

Another big church pastor bites the dust, more sexual impurity, more defenses by the church flock of their own moral failings: Willow Creek Chicago pastor resigns, admits to ’sexual impurity’

Let’s stick to the basic reality, here: Big religion is probably the easiest way for hucksters to make a fast buck off of gullible people. Therefore, it attracts amoral people. That’s the simple bottom line. Especially in big churches, you’re going to get semi-criminals who are interested only in fleecing the flock and are willing to pretend to care about Jesus in order to do it.

You’d be much better off just ASSUMING that your pastor is a cheesy used car salesman interested only in separating you from your money rather than thinking he’s a spokesperson for God.

As a scam, big religion works flawlessly, unfailingly. I confess, even I am tempted sometimes; it’s such easy money and since I know how the scam works I could be a millionaire preacher right now. Only my own personal values restrain me. But I digress…

Church people rush to the defense of the pastor!

“Pastor Wu is like all of us, a sinner. He, too, can find forgiveness for his sin, just like King David of the Old Testament did. Pastor Wu knows the way, and he was very courageous and should be commended for confessing his sin.”

No, that’s where you make a liar out of yourself. I know! You claim to have BEEN sinners, who have been transformed by Christ. You use this alleged transformation to claim the authority to sit in judgment of others. That’s a fact and you know it.

Pick a side: if you claim to different than the rest of us because of your religiosity, if you claim some magical transformation, then you need to prove it by actually being better people.
If you are going to turn around and excuse acting this way by now saying you’re no different than all the rest of us, then get the hell off your moral high-horse and stop judging others!

If this were some atheist-godless-liberal instead of a church pastor you’d be saying, “See, that proves that those people hate America and family values. They need Jesus. That would make it so this stuff wouldn’t happen.”

And you know that you’d do that, so stop lying to yourself and others about it. That, my friends, is the hypocrisy of religion.

Evangelical Church Covers up Sex With Kids

February 9th, 2009

The ongoing saga of hypocrites on parade continues, with New Life church now implicated in a cover-up of child molestation by its staff. Mainstream media has aided the church, of course, keeping it under wraps because we can’t hurt those sensitive Christians’ feelings by revealing their hypocrisy. The Gist: More New Life Church Revelations

“New Life Church had suppressed from the media an earlier case of a pastor at the church who was convicted of sexual assault against a child under the age of 15 and got off easy with help from the church, only to later have his probation revoked. The convicted pastor then illegally left the country, he said, and he speculates that New Life Church may have helped him do so.”

Ah yes, the true family values of evangelical Christians – finally starting to get out there for the world to see: Cover up child sexual abuse…if you get caught, threaten the media to keep it out of the public eye…use your position as “spiritual leaders” to get your pastor off with an unprecedented easy sentence.. then spirit him out of the country to avoid the law.

Read this and remember it next time some hypocrite wants to lecture you about morality and family values. Because their values ought to make you wanna puke.

The Reverend and The Church Boy

January 24th, 2009

Our old friend Ted Haggard makes a return appearance in our Hypocrisy on Parade category. For those who missed this discussion on the old web site, Haggard was a leader in the evangelical community and pastor of the New Life Church, a giant-ass megachurch in Colorado, until a gay prostitute admitted to having sex with – and selling meth to  – the great Reverend Haggard.

Haggard denied most of it, admitting to a single “inappropriate contact.” Oh, and he admitted to buying the Meth but he said he never actually used it … and that must be true because Ted is a Christian and Christians don’t lie.

So anyway, that little episode cost the publicly anti-gay Haggard his mega-church leadership position as well as his position as head of an Evangelical group. But recently he’s been making a bit of a comeback.

Perhaps the new leader of Haggard’s old church now fears being upstaged; Haggard’s return appearances (including an HBO deal) have caused the pastor of New Life Church, Brady Boyd, to reveal that there was a lot more going on than a gay prostitute: Haggard’s little foray into “The Gay” included a long-term relationship with a young male church member…
